Plenary of the National Assembly ratifies Raúl Salcedo as director of the APA

The director of the Panamanian Food Agency (WHAT), Raul Saucedo, was ratified, without objections and with a vote of 47 to 0, by the plenary session of the National Assembly, on a day that began with the unanimous approval of his appointment by the Commission on Credentials, Regulations, Parliamentary Ethics and Judicial Affairs.

Saucedo was accompanied by the Minister of Agricultural Development, Augusto Valderrama, and the Technical Secretary of the Agricultural Cabinet, Blanca Gomez, and other authorities of the agricultural sector.

The WHAT entered into force on October 1 and repealed the Panamanian Food Safety Authority (AUPSA), immediately becoming an ally of producers to streamline food production, import and export processes in a transparent manner.

Saucedo He said that Panama is a country of productive and hard-working people, so the importer and producer must learn to coexist, for the benefit of Panamanian consumers.

Valderrama, for his part, pointed out that this designation is a recognition of the effort and work of the new director of the APA, who together with the President of the Republic, Laurentino Cortizo Cohen and other entities, we know that the country is advancing in a technical, professional and transparent manner.

The Technical Secretary of the Agricultural Cabinet, stressed that this is an important step, with it there will be greater transparency and will serve to give follow-up and equity to the processes at the beginning of this new administration.

On Friday, October 1, the new Panamanian Food Agency (APA), through Law 206 of March 30, 2021. This new entity will be in charge of the management and verification of procedures for the agro-industrial and industrial production of food, export and import of food, its transit and transshipment.
