Podemos studies legal actions against ‘El hormiguero’ for mocking his candidate in Valencia “deaf and dyke”

“What requirement does a candidate have to have?” asks Pablo Motos in a fragment of the latest El Hormiguero program. “Deaf”, answers a collaborator between laughs, to which he adds: “It’s that the one from Valencia, says Irene Montero, the best candidate, deaf, dyke… As anything goes, start missing: here is lame… .”.

The comedian, a regular contributor to the program, refers to the United We Can candidate for mayor of Valencia, Pilar Lima, whom the Minister of Equality claimed in an act on Tuesday in the city. Lima was a senator of the purple formation in 2015 and since 2019 she has been an autonomous deputy in the Valencian Corts, spokesperson for the last two years of the legislature, and is the first representative in these deaf Chambers.

During the last two legislatures, the candidate has claimed equality measures for both people with disabilities and LGTBI people in her public speeches, and often uses her personal experience as an example of barriers, both hearing barriers and discrimination based on her sexual orientation .

From the purple formation they have charged against the mockery of the Antena 3 program, which they consider a “contempt” towards their candidate: “They laugh at the possibility that a deaf and dyke woman may be mayoress”, said Ángela Rodríguez, Secretary of State of Equality. The candidate of Unides Podem-Esquerra Unida, Pilar Lima, has indicated today that her formation is studying legal measures against the program, in addition to measures through the supervisory bodies of the media.

Through a statement, Lima points out that “it is worrying that programs in prime time watched by millions of families and young people laughingly discriminate against Lgtbi+ people and people with disabilities, we are not the subject of jokes, we are people with all political rights and we can be mayors, of course we can”. The parliamentary candidate and exporter considers that “because of behaviors such as that of these intoxicants, there is bullying and discrimination and we must fight them with all the tools, due to attitudes like this, we must apply the LGBTI law to the maximum and from Valencia”.

In the statement, the also general secretary of Podemos in the Valencian Community points out: “The homophobic and vexatious comments made during the broadcast of the ‘El Hormiguero’ program on the Antena 3 chain, by the presenter, Pablo Motos and his collaborator, Miguel Lago , violate TITLE I Article 4 of Law 13/2022, of July 7, General Audiovisual Communication, which indicates that “audiovisual communication will be respectful of human dignity and constitutional values” and “will not incite to violence, hatred or discrimination against a group or members of a group based on age, sex, disability, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, race, color, ethnic or social origin, sexual or genetic characteristics , language, religion or belief, political or any other type of opinion, nationality, patrimony or birth”.
