The priest Heyman Vázquez Medina rescued a group of migrants who hours before were kidnapped, assaulted, injured and sexually abused women by armed men, after the police corporations denied them support.
“As you know, I have been supporting migrants for many years (…) lately I have received many migrants who are assaulted, many injured, women raped,” said the priest.
“La Arrocera is surely a pantheon of migrants, we do not want to go back to those times,” he declared regarding the abuses that have occurred in the past years in the area.
“Today I received a group of migrants, approximately 20, who were robbed in La Arrocera where many of their companions were lost there, the authority was notified, but they do nothing to rescue them.”
Vázquez later explained that given the refusal of the authorities to help, a group of migrants and some journalists went to look for the lost group in the area “by six in the afternoon we managed to locate a group of migrants.”
The representative of the Catholic Church explained that neither the Municipal Police nor the staff of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Crimes Committed Against Immigrants helped them to rescue the migrants, despite the fact that they had exact data on the location where the crimes were committed. and the presumed identity of the armed group.
“The situation is serious, there have been cases of many abuses and the authority does nothing, the obligation of the authorities is to provide security to all people who pass through Mexican territory,” he continues. “It is unfortunate that corruption continues, that impunity continues”
Finally, the priest calls on President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to attend to the abuses that migrants are experiencing.
