Provisional prison for the mosso arrested for trying to kill his wife

The court for violence against women in Mataró (Barcelona) has agreed to send the Mossos d’Esquadra agent to prison for attempted murder, who was arrested on Tuesday for assaulting his wife with a knife at his home in Vilassar de Mar.

As reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC), the court, in addition to the provisional prison, has adopted a restraining order and incommunicado detention of the agent with respect to the victim as well as civil measures on the minor son they have in common. The case is open for the crime of attempted murder.

The events occurred around 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Women’s Day, when the man allegedly attacked his wife with a knife to the neck, for reasons under investigation, at the couple’s home. The agent himself was the one who called the emergency services, assuring that his partner had been injured, although the police finally determined that it was the Mosso who committed the attack.

The Mossos arrested the suspect, a Catalan police officer attached to the riot unit (Brimo), for a crime of attempted murder, while the woman was treated by emergency teams and evacuated to a hospital, where there is no fear for his life despite the seriousness of his injuries.

The Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, condemned this attack in a message on his Twitter account, highlighting that it coincided with 8M, Women’s Day: “Zero tolerance for sexist violence, always and everywhere. Enough already. All support to the victim.” The Mossos d’Esquadra also lamented this sexist aggression on social networks, where they reported the arrest of the agent and showed the message “Today and always, enough sexist violence”.
