PUMA Argentina reached a local production record at its La Rioja plant

Thus, PUMA confirms its commitment to the country by being the only sports brand that integrates national production and the commercialization of its products through the multi-brand commercial network and its own network of stores..

Puma’s story

The company UNISOL SA has a presence in the country for more than 30 years and in La Rioja, it is one of the 2 factories that the German firm PUMA has in the world (the other is its headquarters in the German city of Herzogenarach).

During the 2016/2019 period, it closed the factories it had in the interior of La Rioja (Chilecito, Chamical and Sanagasta) and dismissed almost all its workers, keeping a minimum staff in the facilities of the Riojan capital. This was due to lower consumption in the domestic market and especially to the opening of imports, where the parent company decided to produce locally for imported products.

In October 2020, the firm announced an investment of $ 400 million in the expansion of its production lines at the La Rioja plant, opening of 2 new stores in Buenos Aires, and the hiring of new jobs ($ 240 million in productive investment and $ 160 to open new stores).

By the end of 2020, the company already had 450 workers.

In February 2021, Unisol SA started two new assembly lines in a second production shift, representing an additional volume of 450 thousand pairs of shoes per year, in addition to the 1.4 million pairs per year with which it closed 2020, and the hiring of 100 new jobs.

In addition, as part of this investment, it opened 1 new store on Florida Street (downtown Buenos Aires) and plans to open the second in Alto Palermo Shopping for the second semester, this generates 40 new jobs.
