Qualcomm is one of the companies that is taking advantage of Mobile World Congress to present new products: the company announced a new high-end mobile processor, the Snapdragon 888 Plus.
As the name indicates, it is not a new generation of Snapdragon but rather an update of the current Snapdragon 888 that is in some of the most powerful phones on the market, such as the current Xiaomi Mi 11.
The Snapdragon 888 Plus has a 3 Ghz clock speed, which is a 5 percent increase over the previous model’s 2.84 Ghz. Meanwhile, in terms of artificial intelligence operations, the new chip arrives with an increase of 20 percent as it is capable of performing up to 32 billion operations per second, according to Qualcomm.
The rest of the specifications of the Snapdragon 888 Plus are exactly the same as the original 888, which means that it will be quite powerful when it comes to video games, in addition to having capabilities for 5G connectivity and capturing video with HDR at 4K resolution.
In general, the increases of this new Qualcomm Plus chip are not very important compared to other Plus processors that have been released before. Therefore, future phones that are released for sale with this chip will not have major differences in performance compared to those that already exist.
And speaking of phone models, Qualcomm expects that during the last quarter of the year equipment from various brands will be released, including Motorola, Xiaomi, Vivo, Asus and Honor.
