Range Rover PHEV: the ultimate expression of luxury on wheels in this plug-in hybrid with up to 510 hp

After renewing the Range Rover Evoque, Land Rover renews its flagship, the Range Rover. In this fifth generation, they once again bet on the luxury vehicle, based on a new modular platform to reduce weight and drive, in addition to having completely renewed the design.

The new Range Rover arrives in two versions PHEV (plug-in hybrid) gasoline, in addition to up to five mil-hybrid versions and a single combustion engine, the most powerful. We can buy it in two versions, 5,052 mm or 5,252 mm, as long as we can pay the more than 140,000 euros it costs.

The new Range Rover 2022, like its predecessor, has two bodies available, the standard model measuring 5.05 meters and the long wheelbase version reaching 5.25 meters in length. This generation is based on the MLA-Flex modular platform, a new structure that reduces weight and promises to increase ride comfort.

At the design level, the line of the previous generation has been further refined, now achieving a drag coefficient of just 0.30, an outstanding figure for a vehicle of this volume. Now we find even more presence of LEDs, especially on the sides of the tailgate, which integrate perfectly when switched off.

Interior Range

The interior of the new Range Rover is also updated, with a huge 13.7-inch digital dashboard, a new instrument cluster, 11.4-inch displays for rear passenger infotainmentAll powered by wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility. It also has a WiFi access point that supports up to 8 connected devices. We can choose a 4, 5 or 7-seater version (the latter only in the 5.25-meter version).

As for the sound system, it is signed by Meridian and has a power of 1600W, thanks to the 35 speakers distributed throughout the cabin. Four of them are 20W, one on each main headrest.

As curious details, the Range Rover 2022 has noise cancellation in the headrests themselves. Using an accelerometer system and various microphones, they promise to reduce outside sound by 24% compared to the previous version. In the same way, it has an air purification system inside, both to reduce CO2 levels and to eliminate possible bacteria.

If we talk about engines, we found two interesting gasoline PHEV versions. The rest are mild-hybrid versions, so they work with combustion and delegate some of the vehicle’s electronic elements to the electric motor.

The PHEV versions reach up to 510 hp and promise autonomy of up to 100 kilometers in purely electric mode

The first version is the P440e, with a 3 liters, 6 cylinders and 440 hp. This version reaches 620 Nm of torque and promises to accelerate from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.9 seconds. The second version, the P510e, is based on the same engine, but in this case it reaches 510 hp, 700 Nm of torque and accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds.

Both have a 8-speed automatic transmission, with a 2-speed reducer to face difficult situations in 4×4. Being able to travel 100 kilometers in purely electric mode, it has a zero label.

These two PHEV versions have a 38.2 kWh lithium battery and a 105 kW electric motor integrated into the transmission. According to Range Rover, they can be covered up to 100 kilometers purely electrically. Similarly, they can reach up to 140 km / h in electric driving, promising the firm that the vehicle is designed to complete most of the journeys using only electrical energy.

The price of this new Range Rover starts at 143,300 euros, although it may exceed 200,000 euros, depending on the version. A luxury house on wheels that comes to compete directly with Rolls and Bentley.
