The Razer Blade 14 features a one-piece black aluminum chassis with only the green Razer logo standing out. You are not going to find the typical aggressive lines or the huge vents that evoke an image like a fighter plane, no, the Razer Blade 14 will look good in a solo meeting or at a LAN party.

For its part, the Asus ROG Zephyrus G14 looks more like a gaming laptop, with the AniMe Matrix Display LED lighting system on the lid – small dots that adorn it when the matrix is ​​not installed – and vents more numerous and ostentatious than the one. of the Razer. The G14’s color scheme is also a mixed bag, with the white cap, gray on the keyboard cover and chassis and black bezels. Its aesthetic is that of a gamer laptop, but it is not a minimalist and attractive design like that of the Razer Blade 14.

As we said, the Razer Blade 14 is all aluminum, so it is solid as a rock. It will not bend or sag. The Zephyrus G14 is constructed of a magnesium alloy, which tends to be slightly less solid than aluminum. Not that the Asus is poor quality, but matching the Razer is tough.

The Blade 14 measures 12.59 inches long by 8.66 wide by 0.66 inches thick and weighs 3.92 pounds. The Zephyrus G14 is 12.76 inches long by 8.66 inches wide with a thickness of 0.70 inches and weighs 3.53 pounds. Both laptops are almost identical in size, although the Blade 14 is slightly thinner. To its credit, the Zephyrus G14 is almost half a pound lighter. It’s hard to say which is better in terms of size and weight, as they are both compact, yet powerful (we review their performance later).

Although the overall design of the Razer Blade 14 is not that of a typical gaming laptop, it does have a more gaming-oriented keyboard. Each key has customizable RGB lighting with 15 levels of brightness (a first for Windows laptops). On the other hand, the Zephyrus G14 has the usual lighting options on a gaming laptop, such as zone backlighting, and also, the key lighting is inconsistent. Not only does the Blade 14 offer a more dynamic keyboard, it also feels better than the Zephyrus G14, which we find very responsive. However, both laptops have excellent, well-sized touchpads that are compatible with Microsoft Precision Touchpad drivers.

Finally, the connectivity options are almost identical on both laptops. Both have two USB A 3.2 ports, although both on the Blade 14 are second generation, and both also have two second generation USB C 3.2 ports. The Blade 14’s full-size HDMI port is version 2.0, while the G14’s is 2.0b. Both have 3.5mm jack plugs, Wi-Fi 6, and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless accessory connection.

Both the Zephyrus G14 and Blade 14 use have CPUs with AMD Ryzen processors, Ryzen 9 6900HX in the Razer, and both Ryzen 7 4800HS or Ryzen 9 4900HS in the Asus (which was the unit we reviewed). Processor performance was similar, with the Zephyrus G14 coming out slightly faster in the Geekbench 5 multi-core test and the faster Blade 14 in the single-core test. Unfortunately we were unable to test both laptops with the same version of Handbrake, and we also did not test the Zephyrus G14 in Cinebench R23, which limited our ability to compare processor performance. However, it appears that the Bucket 14 is significantly faster thanks to its Ryzen 5000 series CPU, not to mention that the Zephyrus G14 uses the “HS” model of the 4000 series (which is slower, but stays less hot on thin machines. ). All in all, this makes the Blade 14 a better laptop for demanding tasks like video editing.

Games are naturally better on the Blade 14, which uses Nvidia GeForce RTX 3000 GPUs (we tested it with the RTX 3070). The Zephyrus G14 achieved 5,861 points in the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark when tested with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2060, compared to 8,605 points for the Blade 14. The Asus achieved 91 frames per second (fps) in Civilization VI at 1080p and ultra graphics. , while the Blade 14 reached 111 fps. In Battlefield V, the Zephyrus G14 achieved 70 fps in 1080p and ultra graphics, while the Blade 14 reached 96 fps. Finally, the Zephyrus G14 achieved 91 fps in Fornite at 1080p with epic graphics, while the Blade 14 reached 96 fps, that is, the difference was less.
Both laptops have great performance for a 14-inch laptop. They are capable of displaying games in 1440p (with the appropriate screen) at a high frame-per-second rate with sharp graphics. It’s a great achievement for small laptops, but the Blade 14 has better components and is a faster machine.

The Blade 14 is available with a Full HD (1,920 x 1,080) display with a 144Hz refresh rate, or QHD (2,560 x 1,440) at 165Hz. The Zephyrus G14 has a Full HD display at 120Hz or QHD at 60Hz. Clearly, the Blade 14’s screen performs better, no matter which option you choose.

We tested the Blade 14’s QHD display and found it to have 90 percent color compatibility with AdobeRGB and 100 percent sRGB color fidelity with DeltaE 1.54 (1.0 or less is excellent), which is great for a display. for videogames. Contrast is just fine, at 830: 1 (we prefer 1,000: 1 or less), while brightness surpassed the 300 nit threshold, hitting 315 nits. The Zephyrus G14 we reviewed had a Full HD display and couldn’t match the Blade 14’s colors, achieving 75 percent AdobeRGB and 98 percent sRGB, albeit with excellent color accuracy, 1.1. The contrast was similar, 880: 1, and a fantastic brightness of 332 nits.
Both displays offer quality images that will come in handy for productivity-oriented users looking for a premium laptop (content creators will love the Blade 14’s screen colors, too). But, as gaming laptops, the Blade 14 wins by its better refresh rate, especially if you choose the Zephyrus G14 with a QHD screen, which barely reaches 60Hz.

The Blade 14 is slightly thinner, the Zephyrus G14 is slightly lighter, but they are both very compact 14-inch gaming laptops. Also, neither weighs like a typical gaming laptop, so you can slip it into your backpack without noticing it’s there.

The Zephyrus G14 now packs a large 76-hour-watt battery, compared to the Blade 14’s 61.6-hour-watt. We emphasize that the Razer we reviewed has a better resolution screen, which should affect battery performance. Still, the Blade 14 achieved 8.25 hours of battery life, 1.5 hours longer than the Zephyrus G14 in our web browsing test, and one more hour in our video playback test, in which it reached 11 hours. Neither laptop has enough battery to last a full day of work, and of course, you will have to use your charger when you are playing games, since both batteries last a few hours when the CPU and GPU work together.
