Red hot: a drone films the new lava flow from the La Palma volcano as it engulfs houses and land

A drone from the Geological and Mining Institute of Spain (IGME) has managed to capture the advance of the new lava flow that since Saturday has been destroying virgin land, which had not been affected by the eruption. In the images you can see the rapid advance of the tongue, red hot, as it burns and engulfs everything in its path: houses, land and all kinds of buildings.

Before this new mouth erupted, north of Cogote Mountain, and according to the Copernicus satellite network, the volcano had destroyed 1,180 hectares and up to 2,771 buildings. Figures that will increase in the next few hours. In fact, the technical director of the Canary Islands Volcanic Emergency Plan (Pevolca), Miguel Ángel Morcuende, has indicated this Sunday that the new lava flow has caused “enough damage to take away a good number of homes” in Los Llanos of Aridane.

This stream was slightly displaced from the previous streams and entered certain areas of wide distribution of homes in the southwest of the emission points, and has entered the dividing line between Tazacorte and Los Llanos de Aridane to join stream 9 and provide energy. towards the lava delta.

The Pevolca technical director has also pointed out that there are a series of emission points in the vicinity of the fissure, and in recent days mission centers have emerged at lower levels than the previous ones. There is also an amount of lava in the central area of ​​the flows, which comes from d lava tubes that are probably reflected in flows 4 and 7.

Morcuende has indicated that it continues “with clear problems” in the matter of gases, especially in the southern area of ​​the emergency, where there are high values, which has caused that this Sunday the neighbors have not been allowed access either.
