Reddit, the popular online forum platform, is the latest social network to jump on the bus of tokens no fungibles (NFT).

The social platform, which had around 430 million monthly users in 2021, is working to add support for digital collectibles. As reported by the media Tech Crunch, Reddit is testing a feature that would allow its users to set any NFT as a profile picture on the social network.

The company spokesman, Tim Rathschmidt, advanced the information in an interview with Tech Crunch, which was published on Wednesday.

We’re always exploring ways to provide value to users and communities on Reddit. Right now, we are testing the ability to use NFTs as profile pictures (avatars) and verify ownership.

At the beginning of the week, rumors had begun to spread about the plans of Reddit after Nima Owji, a software developer and engineer who has in the past discovered other social app features before their official announcements, took to Twitter to share a screenshot announcing the development.

Reddit develops Twitter-like NFT feature

The report suggests that the new feature of Reddit would be very similar to the one displayed Twitter just a few days ago. as reported DailyBitcoin, the successful microblogging platform introduced a feature that allows users to verify NFTs as profile pictures. The service, currently available only to premium users of Twitter Blue, displays NFT profile images in a hexagon shape to differentiate them from traditional images.

The news also comes at a time when the social media majors are becoming more and more interested in collectibles. This week, the CEO of YouTube, Susan Wojcicki, announced that the platform is exploring the possibility of integrating NFT as a monetization alternative for its creators.

Meanwhile, another recent report indicated that Facebook e Instagram, property of Meta, could soon allow their users to create and sell NFTs from the platforms; although the plans of the social network giant could be even more ambitious, since the company seems to be developing its own market for collectibles, as reported Financial Times.

It is not clear when he plans Reddit launch your new feature, nor are the details of how NFT support would work. Rathschmidt told Tech Crunch that testing with NFT is still at an early stage and that the feature has not yet been made available to users.

It is a small internal test and no decisions have been made about expanding or implementing the capability.

Reddit has been experimenting with NFTs for some time. The platform created a page dedicated exclusively to activities related to this sector, nft.reddit.com. It also launched its own collection of NFTs based on the game last year. Ethereum. denominatedCryptoSnoos, the limited series is made up of varied and fun designs of the alien mascot of Reddit.
