Released on charges of gender violence, the detainee in Burgos after the death by hanging of his girlfriend

The duty court has released the man arrested on Saturday in Burgos for the death by hanging of his partner on charges of gender violence. As reported by the National Police Station, the autopsy has determined, according to forensic criteria, that the cause of his death is “compatible with suicide by hanging.” It has also determined that this woman had injuries prior to death but that in no case are they the cause of death. Thus, with the result of that autopsy and the detainee’s statement being taken, his release with charges has been decreed.

The National Police arrested the 42-year-old man on Saturday afternoon as the alleged perpetrator of the death of his 20-year-old partner. According to information provided by the Government Delegation in Castilla y León, the woman called 112 at 3:30 p.m. to notify that he was having problems with his partner” at an address on Avenida del Cid. Five minutes later it was the man who called the same number to send the police because according to him, his partner had locked themselves in a room with a knife. When the agents arrived at the house, the woman was dead and the detainee said that she had hanged herself and that he had taken down her body.

According to what eyewitnesses revealed to the agents, screams and blows had been heard in the house. The Police arrested the man, Spanish and with a history of gender violence against a previous partner. The deceased, Romanian, appeared in police files as a victim of sexist violence from previous couples, although there was no record that she had denounced the now detainee. The investigation focused in the first hours on verifying if, as the man said, the woman hanged herself after asking for help or if he managed to access the room where she had locked herself, killed her and tried to simulate suicide. Finally, the result of the autopsy confirms the man’s version, but also that he assaulted her.
