The 2023 Honda Civic Type R, a global high-performance icon revered by car enthusiasts around the world, was unveiled this afternoon at a special event in Los Angeles with NTT INDYCAR SERIES superstar driver Colton Herta at the wheel. The new Honda Civic Type R is the most powerful model in the 30 years of history of the Type R, and was designed from the ground up to deliver exhilarating performance with an addictive driving experience, both on the road and on the track.
The new Civic Type R, the pinnacle of Honda factory performance, is the fastest and most powerful Honda brand vehicle ever offered in the U.S. Based on the 11.a Next generation of the Civic Hatchback, the Civic Type R combines class-leading performance with a low, wide design and a new, upscale cabin experience that heightens driving excitement.

The Civic Type R is recognized around the world as a symbol of extreme performance and appeal, with six variants since it debuted in Japan as a 1997 model. The all-new 2023 Civic Type R, the second model to be sold in the United States, established recently a new track record for a front-wheel drive production car at Suzuka Circuit (Japan)venue for the 2022 Formula 1 Honda Japanese Grand Prix, securing its legacy as the best-performing Civic Type R in history.
A new lightweight and highly rigid bodywork helps improve high-speed stability and scalpel-sharp responses. Circuit-prepared, tuned and tested at the Nürburgring, the Civic Type R’s famously addictive driving sense is further enhanced by improved suspension and steering performance.
An even more powerful and responsive version of Honda’s award-winning 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is paired with an upgraded six-speed manual transmission and rev-matching system for an even more intimate and rewarding connection with the driver.
Powerful aerodynamic design
Longer, lower and wider, the new Type R’s robust yet elegant and sophisticated design features advanced aerodynamics perfectly integrated for well-balanced downforce and reduced drag.
The fenders flare over lightweight wheels wrapped in wider tires. The new, more dynamic front bumper design features a sporty honeycomb grille mesh that echoes the intricate honeycomb moldings inside the cabin. Larger front fender louvers and redesigned side sills behind the front wheels improve airflow efficiency. Its more combative stance is accentuated by wider rear doors unique to the Type R, a restyled rear spoiler and a restyled rear bumper that reveals its signature three round exhaust tips and a new rear diffuser.
The Civic Type R will be available in five eye-catching colors: Historic Championship White (an exclusive Type R finish beloved by Honda enthusiasts), Rally Red, Boost Blue, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Gray Pearl.
Immersive cockpit experience
Civic Type R’s all-new interior encourages intense driving experiences with emotive, performance-focused details and features. The Type R’s iconic red seats, carpets and trim, as well as its serial plate now placed on the dash, are new for the 2023 model year. Suede-like upholstery with a high coefficient of friction reduces body slip in extreme situations. high gravity handling.
A new gauge design exclusive to +R drive mode allows the driver to get the information they need instantly, with a graphical display of engine rpm, rpm indicator lights and gear position indicator placed on the the top. A lower multi-information display can display vehicle information selected by the driver.
The Honda LogR data logging system provides real-time information on the vehicle’s mechanical movements and vehicle behavior resulting from driver input. Other key features include a stopwatch to record lap times and the ability to share driving videos.
