Russia’s Minister of Emergency Situations, Eugeni Zinichev, died Wednesday while trying to save the life of a member of the emergency services during a series of training exercises in the Arctic.
The incident occurred during a series of operations framed in a drill on possible emergencies in the area of the Arctic, as reported by the Ministry itself.
According to the Sputnik news agency, the minister died while trying to help a cameraman who had fallen into the water from a high-altitude rock.
The Russian authorities, who have indicated that the operations were carried out in Norilsk, have transferred their “deep regret” for the “tragic death” of the minister, who had 55 years and had been in charge of the portfolio since January 2020.
The president of the country, Vladimir Putin, has expressed its condolences to the Zinichev family and their loved ones, as indicated by the Kremlin spokesman, Dimitri Peskov. It is planned that Alexander Chupriyan assume the position on a provisional basis.
