Sánchez asks to vote for the PSOE so as not to go back: “The right wants to return to the Spain of 2013”

A victory in Barcelona can become for the Socialists one of the greatest joys of next Sunday. With this premise, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has closed the electoral campaign in the Catalan capital this Friday, an unprecedented gesture with which he has presented a PSC that aspires to once again be the party with the most votes in Catalonia. The president has asked to support the socialist party because it is the option that guarantees not to back down.

“The right wants to return to the Spain of 2013, of social conflict, of inequality, and others want to return to the Catalonia of 2017, to the Catalonia of confrontation, but between the two there is a large social majority that wants to advance in coexistence, rights and employment”, said Sánchez, who was accompanied by former president José Luís Rodríguez Zapatero, also very present in the Catalan campaign.

Sánchez has puffed up his chest for the economic achievements of his government, practically at the same time that Vice President Yolanda Díaz claimed from the other end of Barcelona the measures taken by the coalition Executive. The president has highlighted the revaluation of pensions, the improvement in the minimum wage, the three consecutive years of positive growth or the record number of Social Security affiliations.

“We are demonstrating that social democratic policies feel infinitely better for Spain than neoliberal policies. We are showing that we can better manage the economy”, stressed Sánchez, in a pavilion in Vall d’Hebrón delivered.

The chief executive has devoted a good part of his minutes to charging against the discourse of the right, which in the final stretch of the campaign has advocated “repealing sanchismo.” “What does the right propose? Just repeal, demolish, destroy. But going back to the past is not a political project, we ask for the vote to advance in rights and in harmony ”, he pointed out.

Zapatero claims pardons

Former President Zapatero has been the author of one of the most applauded interventions when he has praised the way in which Sánchez has led the last stage of the process. “What I value most about the President of the Government is that with courage, with conviction, with integrity, he granted pardons to pacify Catalonia. And there are the results. To dialogue is to act”, Zapatero has claimed.

Along the same lines, the former president has continued to praise his successor, also for the economic measures. “What would the right say if after everything that has happened, a pandemic and a war, Spain was the fastest growing country in Europe and they governed? Well no, Pedro Sánchez and the Socialist Party govern, with a brilliant balance of management ”, he has proclaimed.

Sánchez has returned the ball when he has said of Zapatero that he is “an example for everyone and a source of pride for the PSOE” after recalling that the end of ETA and peace in Euskadi was achieved under his presidency and with Alfredo Pérez Rubalcaba as minister .

The Catalan socialists are convinced that the presence of Sánchez in Barcelona is an unbeatable incentive to mobilize their electorate, especially those who are to the left and on the border with the communities of Ada Colau or with ERC. “Thank you infinitely Pedro for everything you have done for the Catalans and the Catalans. People are going to reflect it in their vote ”, said the candidate for mayor of Barcelona, Jaume Collboni, who has asked for the vote of “those disappointed with Colau ”.

“This is the place from where the best Olympic Games in history were held and they were held by a socialist mayor”, Collboni assured the 4,000 people who attended the event. “This is not just a rally, it is a party that promotes victory throughout Catalonia”, he exclaimed. “Also in Barcelona, which is already turning the page and can touch a new phase with a mayor of the PSC. Hello Barcelona, we are here, the PSC is here”, added Collboni triumphantly.

Throughout the last week the socialist candidate has tried to position himself between the current mayor Ada Colau and Xavier Trias, who have tried to polarize the campaign. “Neither Colau nor Trias, now what it’s time is a new mayor of the PSC,” she asked. Collboni has also rounded off his campaign by vindicating the government work of all the socialist mayors whom he has cited one by one. The leader of the PSC, Salvador Illa, has also done so, including a reference to “our Pascual Maragall, despite the fact that Ernest Maragall has criticized in recent days the use of his brother’s name by the Socialists.

A few hours before the end of the campaign rally, Sánchez has also been in Tarragona, another of the key cities for the PSC and where the mayoralty is being disputed with ERC. “Thank you for joining us, dear Pedro”, Illa told him, who has vindicated the “useful policy” of the current Government. “A useful policy is to have opened a new stage in Catalonia, a stage of dialogue and harmony,” stressed the leader of the Catalan socialists, who has also considered that approving the Generalitat’s budgets from the opposition, as he did last March , is another example of “useful politics”.
