Sánchez calls former presidents González, Aznar, Zapatero and Rajoy to share the situation on Ukraine

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, has called this Saturday afternoon the former Presidents of the Government Felipe González, José María Aznar, José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and Mariano Rajoy to share the situation regarding Ukraine and listen to the experience and impressions of the former leaders. All the former presidents have thanked Sánchez for the call and have made themselves available to him.

Sánchez has also called Javier Solana, former High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and Joaquín Almunia, former Commissioner for the Economy of the European Union.

Pedro Sánchez will appear this Wednesday in Congress to report on the situation in Ukraine. The president already called last Thursday, after the beginning of Russia’s invasion of the country presided over by Volodímir Zelenski, the leader of the opposition, Pablo Casado, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs has kept the parliamentary groups informed.

The Russian offensive against Ukraine has continued this Saturday, with fighting and bombing in various parts of the country, which have been particularly relevant in the capital, Kiev, where there have been clashes since dawn. The Ukrainian president, Volodímir Zelenski, has addressed the population to affirm that the capital is resisting and that the army had frustrated Putin’s plans, despite the fact that earlier in the day the Russian Armed Forces claimed to have destroyed more than 800 Ukrainian targets.
