The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, will visit Beijing next week after the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, invited him on a state visit, as has been announced The country and has been confirmed by the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños on Cadena Ser. Sánchez will go to the city between March 30 and 31.
Bolaños has indicated that “China has a key role in its possible mediation in the war in Ukraine” and that the visit will also be important “from the economic and commercial point of view.”
The invitation three days after Xi Jinping went to Moscow as part of his plan to mediate over the war in Ukraine.
It is not the first time that there are talks between China and Spain about the country’s position regarding the war. Already in November 2022, during the G20 Summit, the President of the Government asked the Chinese leader to use his influence on Russia so that Vladimir Putin would end the dispute.
A few months earlier, Putin described the Asian country’s position as “balanced”, although he admitted Beijing’s “questions and concerns” about the invasion.
