Saudi prince becomes the new controller of SNK | Digital Trends Spanish

Fatal Fury, the king of Fighters, metal-slug and samurai showdown These are just some of the titles from the brilliant video game developer SNK. However, the catalog is on hold after Mohamed bin Salman, the crown prince of Saudi Arabia, became the controller of the Japanese company.

The operation was carried out through the Mohamed bin Salman Foundation (MiSK), which at the end of 2020 had acquired 33.3 percent of the shares. Through its subsidiary Electronic Game Development Company (EGDC), it now totals 96.18 percent ownership.

“The MiSK Foundation’s investment in SNK continues a long-standing partnership with the Japanese company,” the nonprofit organization noted. Previously, both parties worked on joint projects in animation and video games via Manga Productions, another subsidiary of the Middle East entity.

Born 36 years ago in Jeddah, Mohamed bin Salman is the heir to Saudi Arabia and the second highest authority in the country. His father, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, made him first in line to the throne in 2017.

The crown prince was credited with pushing modernization measures such as the female driver’s license. However, multiple accusations of human rights violations also weigh against him. One of the most talked about was his alleged link to the murder of journalist Jamal Kashoggi at the Saudi Arabian consulate general in Istanbul, Turkey.
