Boys and girls will be able to play without masks in schoolyards starting this Thursday. The lifting of the obligation to wear face masks outdoors also includes outdoor spaces in schools, as confirmed by the Government spokesperson, Isabel Rodríguez, at the press conference after the Council of Ministers that approved the end of the restriction. .
“Without a doubt, they have given a great example of responsibility and this will be great news for them, for their teachers and for their fathers and mothers,” said Rodríguez. Until now, minors were obliged to wear a mask at recess and on excursions because it was considered that, during the game, they could not maintain the minimum distance of 1.5 meters.
The previous regulation, the one before Christmas, established that it was possible to remove the mask outdoors but as long as there was a separation between people. Therefore, it is the first time in two years that boys and girls have been released from this measure, although it will continue to be kept indoors until further notice.
After the approval of the new royal decree, the mask is no longer mandatory outdoors to become only recommended in times of “crowding” as a “prevention measure”, confirmed Rodríguez, who specified that such a recommendation is not contemplated in the normative text but is the result of an “agreement between communities”.
That will be the general rule. Its use, the spokeswoman recalled, is reserved solely for “events organized in the open air.” It will have to be worn, for example, in concerts in which the attendees are standing or in appointments in which, despite being seated, “a distance of one and a half meters cannot be guaranteed.”
