Sentenced to 10 years in prison the man who caused the suicide of a minor in Castellón to whom he sent an avalanche of threatening messages

The Provincial Court of Castellón has sentenced the man whom a popular jury found guilty last July of causing the suicide of a minor to ten years in prison for the crime of homicide.

The sentence, in application of the verdict of the jury, establishes and establishes as proven facts that the accused contacted the victim on December 1, 2016 through the WhatsApp application with the victim, then 17 years old, and sent him more than 119 messages with content intimidating and threatening in less than three hours.

The teenager repeatedly apologized to his interlocutor, told him that he was a minor and warned him that if he continued like this he would commit suicide.

However, the accused -the court decision specifies-, being “fully aware of the anguish and uneasiness” that the boy was generating and of the “high probability that the death of the minor would occur by committing suicide as he had announced, and accepting it ,” he continued to send messages.

Finally, on the afternoon of that same December 1, the victim jumped into the void through the inner courtyard of his home building and died on the spot.

The sentence, which can now be appealed before the Civil and Criminal Chamber of the Superior Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, sets compensation for a total of 173,000 euros in favor of the parents and the brother of the deceased for moral damages.
