Several killed in new protests against the Taliban in Afghanistan

Several people have died in the Afghan city of Asadabad, capital of the province of Kunar, during the demonstrations for the independence day in which the assistants waved the national flag, turned these days into a symbol against the Taliban, as reported by Reuters.

A witness quoted by the agency notes that it is unclear whether the victims were killed by Taliban gunfire or by the stampede that followed shortly thereafter. According to several local accounts on Twitter, this Wednesday there were also protests in the city in which national flags were waved.

The agency also reported on Wednesday the death of at least three people in other protests in the city of Jalalabad, capital of Nangahar province.

“Protests in the city of Jalalabad in support of the national flag … The Taliban have fired at protesters and hit some photojournalists,” Afghan news agency Pajhwok reported on Twitter.
