Sharp Scientists: Booster Vaccine Not Appropriate | Digital Trends Spanish

Vaccination campaigns against COVID-19 continue to increase the differences in the world. While poorer countries still have a very small percentage of their population vaccinated, nations with more resources already have a vaccination schedule over 75% with the two doses, and some are even putting third or booster doses to increase the level of protection.

However, this Monday, September 13, a new study launched by the specialized magazine The Lancet, with the opinion of leading world scientists and the United States, firmly states that these booster doses are not necessary and are not appropriate for the particular moment of the pandemic.

While the effectiveness of the Covid vaccine against mild illness may decrease over time, protection against severe illness may persist, the scientists said.

“The current evidence, therefore, does not appear to show the need to increase in the general population, in which efficacy against severe disease remains high,” the scientists wrote, adding that the wide distribution of boosters “is not appropriate at this stage of the pandemic ”.

One of the adverse situations that most concern scientific authorities is the possible proliferation of cases of myocarditis, a rare heart condition that could be dangerous in older patients.

“If the unnecessary increase causes significant adverse reactions, there could be implications for vaccine acceptance that go beyond COVID-19 vaccines,” they wrote.

Scientists in The Lancet review published Monday include Marion Gruber, director of the FDA’s Office of Vaccine Research and Review, and deputy director Phil Krause.
