The Catalan Corporació de Mitjans Audiovisuals (CCMA) has confirmed this Monday that Sigfrid Gras and Jordi Borda will be the new directors of TV3 and Catalunya Ràdio, after the public contest launched to choose the new professionals. The names have not surprised since both Gras and Borda had been temporarily in charge of public television and radio after the dismissal of the previous directors, Vicent Sanchis and Saül Gordillo. This Monday, and after studying the evaluation of an independent commission, both have been confirmed to be in charge of the new stage of the two main Catalan public media.

In a statement, the CCMA assures that it has made the decision “after evaluating the profiles and management projects presented by the candidates, and having taken into account the report of the Assessment Commission, both in relation to the suitability of the profiles as well as the solvency of the management project presented”. This is the first time that the appointment of directors is the result of a public and open selection process, provided for in the new CCMA law.
In the case of television, Gras has been elected by 7 favorable votes, that is, unanimity among the members of the Governing Council who were once appointed by PSC, ERC and Junts. In the case of Borda, the new director of Catalunya Ràdio, he has received 5 favorable votes, which means that two directors have voted for another candidate. Gras and Borda have also been the candidates who have received the highest rating from the Committee of experts.
The Corporation has announced that it will keep the rest of the candidates confidential, but it has made the names of the members of the Valuation Commission public. They are Núria de José, deputy dean of the College of Journalists of Catalonia; Joan Abellà, general director of the Grup Enciclopèdia; Josep Maria Carbonell, former dean of the Blanquerna Faculty of Communication and International Relations (URL); Judith Colell, president of the Catalan Film Academy; Josep Maria Ganyet, professor and promoter of digital technologies, and Mabel Mas, member of the Board of the College of Advertising and Marketing of Catalonia.
Both directors stand out for their extensive knowledge of the mediums they will pilot, in which they have extensive careers. Sigfrid Gras, born in Barcelona in 1967, began his career in the public media in 1991, from the Madrid delegation of Catalunya Ràdio, but since 2012 he has held positions of responsibility at TV3, first as deputy director of Information Services and, since 2016, as assistant to the direction of Vicent Sanchis and director of Content and Programs.
For his part, Jordi Borda, born in Lleida in 1975, joined Catalan public radio in 1999 as sports editor and head of coverage of major football events, head of information about Barça between 2003 and 2016 and member of the team by Joaquim Maria Puyal in Barça broadcasts for 10 years. Since 2016, he was attached to the management of the Group of Broadcasters of Catalunya Ràdio.
