It seems that the sonic cinematic universe it’s sticking to the pattern of releasing a Sonic movie every two years. Paramount Pictures and the official Twitter account for the Sonic movie announced that sonic the hedgehog 3 It will hit theaters on December 20, 2024.

The Christmas release date comes as a surprise to some Sonic fans, as the previous movies came out earlier in their respective years. sonic the hedgehog came out on Valentine’s Day 2020 after a three-month delay (due to “Ugly Sonic” needing a makeover), while sonic the hedgehog 2 was released on April 8 last spring.
Though Sonic 3 coming out much later in the year than its predecessors, its release date coincides with the 23rd anniversary of Sonic’s release Adventure 2: Battle on the GameCube (although the original game was released on the Dreamcast in June 2001), which appears to be the source material for the sequel based on Shadow the Hedgehog’s appearance in the credits scene of Sonic the Hedgehog 2. . The film will open in direct box office competition with Avatar 3 by James Cameron.
In the meantime, we have a Knuckles the Echidna spin-off series coming to Paramount+ in 2023, with Idris Elba reprising his voiceover role of the muscular echidna. We also have Sonic Prime that will be on netflix later this year courtesy of WildBrain, and Shadow and Big the Cat are confirmed to appear in the series.
As for the game, the next game adventure of the hedgehog is sonic frontiers, which will be released this holiday season. More information about the game will be revealed on the Opening Night live stream of gamescom August 23.
