Sony suspends its sales of consoles and games in Russia | Digital Trends Spanish

Sony has just joined the long list of big technology companies that are sanctioning Russia and suspending their operations in the country.

Sony’s gaming division, Sony Interactive Entertainment, announced on Wednesday, March 9, that it would halt all console shipments and game launches in Russia, in response to violence against Ukraine.

The company has also indicated that it will suspend access from the country to the PlayStation Store, the brand’s online game store. In addition, Sony will cancel the Russian launch of Gran Turismo 7, one of its most anticipated titles for this year.

In addition, the company will donate $2 million dollars to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (ACNUR) and the non-profit organization Save the Children, in order to help the victims of the war in Ukraine .

With this measure, Sony joins a long list of companies and services related to the world of technology that veto Russia. They all state that they will maintain this blocking position until the situation in Ukraine changes.

Specifically in the video game industry there are several names that have decided to veto the country presided over by Vladimir Putin. Among them are CD Projekt, Epic Games, Microsoft or Electronic Arts.

In addition, Sony’s direct competitor, Microsoft, also announced a few days ago that it will suspend sales in the country and support the Ukrainian government in defending against Russian cybersecurity attacks.
