Now, according to the body that regulates European football, the decisive duel will take place at the Stade de France in Paris on the same date originally announced, May 28.

In a statement, UEFA explained that it made this determination as a result of the “serious escalation of the security situation” on the continent. The body also ordered that the Russian or Ukrainian teams that continue in European competitions must play their matches in neutral venues until further notice.

“UEFA shares the serious concern of the international community about the security situation developing in Europe and strongly condemns the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine,” it said.

Individually, the different European federations have also spoken out about the tense situation on the continent. The associations of Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic said that the qualifying matches for the World Cup in Qatar should not be played in Russia.

F1 will not race in Russia

Sebastian Vettel was one of the first drivers in the Formula One to demonstrate against Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine. The German, in fact, assured that he would not run the Grand Prix that takes place in that country, as a way of protesting against the Russian attack.

Now the International Automobile Federation (FIA) has confirmed that there will be no Russian Grand Prix, which should have been held on September 25 in Sochi. The organization behind the highest category of motorsports, assured that it considers “impossible to maintain the Sochi race in these circumstances”. It is presumed that Istanbul could replace the Russian GP.

Meanwhile, the Euroleague, the highest basketball club competition in Europe, confirmed the suspension of the matches between Zenit-Barcelona, Baskonia-Unics Kazan and Bayern-CSKA.

Finally, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) condemned the breach of the Olympic truce by the Russian government that began seven days before the Winter Olympics in Beijing and ends seven days after the end of the Paralympic Games.

This Friday, February 25, will be a day of meetings, since several European competitions could also be suspended or postponed due to the serious situation in Ukraine.
