The Russian Sputnik V vaccine could be a very good solution against the omicron variant of the coronavirus, according to information recently published by the Gamaleya Center.
The Press release says that the effects of the vaccine are not so diminished compared to what is the case with vaccines from other manufacturers. For example, in the Pfizer-BioNTech, the effectiveness is reduced up to 41 times, while in the Moderna vaccine it has a reduction in a range of 49 to 84 times.
Therefore, Sputnik V is more effective against the omicron variant than the other vaccines. According to the Gamaleya Center, these results were achieved with patients whose inoculation had occurred in a period greater than six months, in another sample of the prolonged effectiveness of Sputnik V.
“100 percent of patients with booster doses of Sputnik developed natural antibodies against omicron,” reads the statement, while “only 25 percent of patients boosted with Pfizer had, three months later, a similar level of antibodies against omicron ”.
Despite the encouraging news that these results mean, the Gamaleya Center is explicit in saying that it is only a preliminary study and therefore, even more tests are necessary to confirm the data.
The results also contrast with a new scientific study which reveals that the Johnson & Johnson, Sinopharm and Sputnik V vaccines are the least effective against omicron; on the other hand, that of Pfizer / Moderna is much more effective compared to the new variant.
However, this recent study has not yet been reviewed and verified by other scientists, so beyond the initial results, it is nothing definitive.
