Study suggests there are volcanic explosions on Venus | Digital Trends Spanish

Some time ago, the existence of life on Venus had been ruled out because of the presence of phosphine, which could have suggested that. And now, a new study sheds other clues on the same topic: Phosphine on Venus could be due to volcanic activity.

Originally, it was believed that there could be life on Venus because phosphine, on Earth, exists thanks to microscopic organisms or because it is produced in some industries. However, a group of scientists who continued to study the Venus data now suggest that phosphine is due to volcanic explosions and that we may well be dealing with erupting volcanoes.

These volcanoes, in turn, would throw phosphite into the planet’s atmosphere and this, when combined with other elements such as sulfuric acid, could be transformed into the previously observed phosphine.


However, the volcanic activity on Venus is only a suggestion and not a conclusion; In other words, if there is phosphine on Venus then it is probably due to volcanoes, but nothing can be said with complete certainty yet.

On the other hand, the research believes that for the phosphite to reach the atmosphere of Venus and become phosphine, the volcanic eruption would have to be as large as the one that occurred with the Krakatoa volcano in 1883. This explosion is the largest in the world. that is recorded on Earth.

Astronomers will continue to observe activity on Venus, using images captured by ALMA telescopes in northern Chile. And who knows if it can finally be concluded if one of the planets closest to the Sun has active volcanoes or not; at least, it is already known that parts of its surfaces are in motion.
