Subaru Solterra: the first electric car of the Japanese brand is an SUV that shares technology with Toyota

The Subaru Solterra is now official. The Japanese manufacturer has presented its first electric car, an SUV with up to 530 kilometers of autonomy and up to 214 hp of power.

Subaru’s new electric will be manufactured in the e-SUBARU platform, developed together with Toyota and similar to the TNGA of the BZ4X, with whom it shares many of the characteristics.

Subaru joins the electric car with the Solterra

We have an SUV with a front-wheel drive variant with 201 hp and a model with four-wheel drive for a total of 214 hp. As for the battery, the Solterra includes a 71.4 kWh battery for a range of up to 530 kilometers, according to the Japanese WLTC cycle.


Unlike Toyota’s bZ4X, the Solterra will not have a sunroof. Yes it will incorporate the sistema X-Mode that it already offers in its combustion vehicles and that promises a better feeling of safety on difficult roads.

In terms of dimensions, the Solterra measures 4.6 meters long and 1.8 meters high, with a wheelbase of 2.8 meters. The SUV has fairly regular lines, with a hexagonal grille and fog lights.


Inside we have a digital instrument cluster and a 7 “touch screen. The Subaru Solterra will be compatible con Android Auto y Apple CarPlayas well as adding features such as parking assistance.

Each brand has its times and it has not been until now when the Japanese manufacturer has decided to take the step to electric cars with the Solterra. The new vehicle will be available globally, starting mid-2022 for Japan, USA, Canada, China and Europe.
