Nintendo took advantage of its recent Nintendo Direct to introduce the cast that will provide the voices in the new animated Super Mario film, which is being jointly produced by Nintendo and Universal Pictures.
The announcement was made by Shigeru Miyamoto himself, who is also listed as the producer of the film. The voice of Mario will be Chris Pratt, while Princess Peach will be played by Anya Taylor-Joy and Bowser will be in charge of the popular Jack Black.
Meanwhile, Charlie Day will be the voice of Luigi, while Keegan-Michael Key will be the voice of Toad. Kevin Michael Richardson, Fred Armisen and Sebastian Maniscalco will voices Kamek, Cranky Kong and Spike respectively. And if Cranky is there, there must also be Donkey Kong: the gorilla’s voice will be Seth Rogen’s.
Beyond that the cast of the tape is totally hollywoodense, Nintendo is not forgetting Charles Martinet, who in video games has been the voice of Mario and other characters for several decades. Martinet will also be in the film and will make an appearance in some cameos, in what may be a minor participation but at the same time it serves to recognize his work over time.
The movie of Super Mario It will hit theaters towards the end of next year. In the United States it will be released on December 21, 2022 and Nintendo promises to announce the release date in the rest of the world later.
For now, Nintendo has limited itself to giving the dates and announcing the cast, but there is still a great detail in the air: it is not known exactly what the name of the film will be. It will probably be composed of Super Mario plus some subtitles, but that will surely be known when the first trailer of the work that Illumination Studios is doing, the studio behind the films of the Minions.
