Director Taika Waititi spoke with the site Gamesradar to refer to his new job in starwarswhere he reaffirmed that the story will be outside the official Skywalker canon and that it will present something completely new.
In fact, the actor also commented on the words of the executive president of Lucasfilms, Kathleen Kennedy, who wants a new saga and something never told before.
Look, I think for the Star Wars universe to expand, it has to expand. I don’t think there’s any use in the Star Wars universe doing a movie where everyone’s like, ‘Oh great, well that’s the plans for the Millennium Falcon, oh that’s Chewbacca’s grandmother.’ All of that stands alone, that’s great, although I would like to take something new and create some new characters and just expand the world, otherwise it seems like it’s a very small story,” Waititi said.
It is not the first time that Taika Waititi has been linked to Star Wars, since he lent his voice to the character of The Mandalorian IG-11 and directed a Season 1 episode of the series.
