The Banshees of Inisherin: Colin Farrell plays an eternal friend | Digital Trends Spanish

It is a mistake to think that only family members or romantic partners can break your heart. Sometimes even your closest friends will crush you emotionally by simply cutting you out of their lives for no apparent reason. It can be a soul-crushing experience, as seen in the new trailer of The Banshees of Inisherin.

Colin Farrell of Batman plays Pádraic, a lifelong friend and partner of Colm (Brendan Gleeson). At least it was before Colm suddenly rejected Pádraic and wanted nothing to do with him. Worse yet, Colm refuses to explain to Pádraic why they are no longer friends or what he did to offend the older man.

The inherent problem is that Colm was such a big part of Pádraic’s life that he can’t just let it end like this. Pádraic has to know why, and if possible, he just wants his friend back. Pádraic’s sister Siobhán (Kerry Condon) and his business partner Dominic (Barry Keoghan) sympathize with his plight and try to help him patch things up with Colm. However, Colm is so opposed to any reconciliation with Pádraic that he threatens to mutilate himself if Pádraic doesn’t leave him alone.

According to the film’s official description, “Pádraic’s repeated efforts only strengthen his former friend’s resolve, and when Colm issues a desperate ultimatum, events quickly escalate, with shocking consequences.” That makes it sound like Colm might go ahead with his plans to hurt himself.

Martin McDonagh wrote and directed The Banshees of Inisherinwhich reunites him with Farrell and Gleeson for the first time since In Bruges in 2008. The Banshees of Inisherin will premiere at the Venice Film Festival on September 4, before opening in theaters on Friday October 21.
