The town of Castrillo Mota de Judíos has once again been the object of vandalism late on Wednesday night. Several containers have been burned and anti-Semitic graffiti has been painted on the entrance and exit signs of the town, as reported by BurgosNoticias.

The neighbors have had to put out the fire generated in these containers, which has also prevented it from spreading to the adjoining farms, since these waste containers were located on the outskirts of the town.
Likewise, once again, the signs indicating the name of the municipality have been painted changing some letters of the current nomenclature (Mota de Judíos) that once replaced the old one (Matajudíos).
The mayor of Castrillo Mota de Judíos, Lawrence Rodriguez, considers that the acts of vandalism that occurred last night in which several posters in the town were vandalized with anti-Semitic graffiti and containers were burned “could have led to a tragedy.”
Rodríguez has recalled that it is not the first time that the town’s posters have appeared with anti-Semitic graffiti, but on this occasion, he assures that the perpetrators of these acts “have gone a step further, they have crossed a red line because they have endangered the life of the villagers.
He maintains that it was a local resident who by chance noticed the flames in the containers and later raised the alarm, and with the help of hoses and fire extinguishers the fire was put out, “because if it had spread it could have reached the houses and cause a tragedy,” Rodríguez pointed out, noting “that the residents of the town are afraid.”
Lorenzo Rodríguez indicates that it is not known for sure who the authors of these unfortunate events are, although it is believed that Nazi, neo-Nazi or anti-Semitic associations or groups from Madrid, Valencia or Santander are behind them and have acted when they learned that in the next few days to come to live in the town a Jewish family.
Given this situation, Mayor Castrillo Mota de Judíos has announced that they are going to implement security measures and are going to ask the Government Subdelegation to install cameras in the town.
He asks for respect for everyone and assures that he will continue working and no one will silence them in the face of these hateful and despicable acts, at the same time that he has stated that Castrillo Mota de Judíos is going to apply to join the International Association in Support of the Holocaust. It will be the first small municipality in Spain to join this Association, apart from cities such as Madrid and Valencia that are already integrated. It indicates that “unfortunately, Castrillo Mota de Judíos is the municipality in Spain that receives the most anti-Semitic attacks.”
The Jewish Communities of Spain condemn the events
The Federation of Jewish Communities of Spain (FCJE), the institution that officially represents Spanish Jews, has unmitigatedly condemned the anti-Semitic attacks that occurred in Castrillo Mota de Judíos (Burgos) at dawn this Thursday.
These are “recurring attacks” against the municipality and its inhabitants since “intimidating graffiti” have been carried out in addition to the fact that several waste containers have been set on fire.
The FCJE urges the competent authorities to take extreme preventive measures to avoid these incidents and to identify the perpetrators “who repeatedly” attack Castrillo Mota de Judíos. Likewise, the Federation has shown its solidarity with the inhabitants of this Burgos town.
