The Catalan Minister of Health, Josep Maria Argimon, has admitted that it was a “mistake” to allow the celebration of three massive festivals in Catalonia during the first two weeks of July, a period in which cases among young people were skyrocketing. “I would not repeat it,” added the minister.

Argimon has stood out in an interview on Catalunya Radio that these contests “were very well organized” but, even so, it was “very complicated” to keep the mask inside the venue. The three events -the Vida festival, the Canet Rock and the Cruïlla- brought together more than 100,000 people after having a protocol endorsed by the Department of Health and the Interior.
To access these festivals, you had to pass an antigen test and wear the mask inside the venue, where you did not have to keep social distance. As stated by the organization of two events to this newspaper, the festivals were understood as an “observational study” or a “pilot test” that collected the witness of previous experiments held in Barcelona in December 2020 and April 2021.
Although the Department has not wanted to confirm if there have been outbreaks of Covid-19 in these venues, the trail of positive cases among those attending these events has been constant in recent days in Catalonia. elDiario.es collected some testimonies from its assistants in this report.
Argimon has intoned the mea culpa and it has indicated that, with the current figures of infections, “clearly things have not been done well”. The minister pointed out that epidemiological data continue to be “very bad” despite the fact that there has been a certain “slowdown” in the group between 15 and 29 years old in recent days. In the same interview, he also explained that there are a thousand health center workers who, despite being vaccinated with the full schedule, have been infected with Covid-19 during the fifth wave.
