The Cciap and Senacyt launch the call for the Innovation Award

The Chamber of Commerce, Industries and Agriculture of Panama (Cciap) and the National Secretariat of Science, Technology and Innovation (Senacyt), launched the call for the fifteenth edition of the National Award for Business Innovation 2021, which will award the sum of $ 67,000.00, among the participating companies that are or have developed innovative projects in Panama.

The objective of the contest is for companies to present innovative projects that they apply in their businesses and thus participate for three prizes.

The deadline to submit the proposals is until Tuesday, February 15, 2022 and the awards will be on March 23, within the framework of Expocomer, Panama’s world trade showcase.

This project seeks to promote and strengthen the capacity for innovation in companies in the country.

The expectation of the Cciap and Senacyt is that Panamanian companies achieve efficiency in their production and processes that will transcend in increasing their productivity either nationally or internationally.

“With this increase in efficiency, they will be able to increase their income, thus allowing the hiring of more national labor, which translates into a decrease in the unemployment rate and an increase in the country’s competitiveness,” he said. José Ramón Icaza, president of the Cciap.

Companies interested in participating in this contest have the deadline to present their innovative proposals until Tuesday, February 15, 2022.

The distribution of the prizes to the finalists and winners will be as follows: the first place will receive $ 30,000.00, the second place $ 20,000.00 and the third place $ 10,000.00.

Additionally, $ 1,000.00 will be awarded in incentives for companies that occupy from fourth to tenth place.

“The leadership of our country in the markets in which we currently participate and in which we are about to penetrate, as well as the generation and attraction of investment, will depend on the innovation of the productive sectors of our economy and allows us, at the same time, take advantage of the benefits of the trade liberalization policy of our country “, added the president of the Cciap.

In addition, he said that “Panama needs to make innovation the currency of its progress, applying it to all aspects of its national life, starting with education and strengthening it in the areas of scientific, technological and industrial research.”

For his part, Dr. Eduardo Ortega-Barría, national secretary of Senacite, indicated: “Companies must invest in basic sciences, applied sciences and knowledge transfer aimed at innovation to develop the necessary actions so that this investment transcends positively.”

In his speech, he added that today Panamanian companies present a huge challenge in their need to innovate, the effects of the coronavirus have made evident the real needs they require to guarantee their subsistence.
