Zero tax increases and new deductions for small and medium incomes, that is the central line of the electoral program presented today by the candidate of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU), Armin Laschet, whom polls point to as the most likely winner of the German elections on September 26. “Especially after the pandemic, tax increases are the wrong way,” defends the conservative leader, “because they get in the way of the necessary rebound in the economy.”

The 138-page document says: “We will gradually eliminate the solidarity surcharge for all and at the same time we will free small and medium income from income tax.” Climate protection and financial coverage for care
