The confinement of the strike committee of Primary Care doctors in Madrid ends

The strike committee of doctors and pediatricians of Primary Care in Madrid has put an end to the confinement that it maintained at the headquarters of the Ministry of Health on Calle de Sagasta, 6 in Madrid after 36 hours and after publicly denouncing that the Ayuso government was preventing that they receive receive hot food.

The Amyts union, convener of the indefinite strike that has been taking place since last November 21 to demand an improvement in their working conditions, has explained that in the time that the confinement has lasted they have had no contact with the Ministry or with any other member of the Government of the Community of Madrid.

The general secretary of Amyts and the committee, Ángela Hernández, has indicated in a video distributed from inside the building that the doctors who were supporting them outside have asked them to end the confinement and, excited, has confirmed that the strike continues Go ahead with the demonstration and the rally called for Saturday and Sunday in which, after 26 days of strike and protests, the white tide will take to the streets again.

For Hernández, the confinement in the meeting room on Sagasta street has revealed “how when an Administration does not want to reach agreements, it does not reach agreements and how when an Administration wants to mistreat Primary Care, its primary care doctors, Family and his pediatricians, and when he doesn’t want to provide solutions for patients, he looks for excuses”.

A few days ago, “the excuse was that we wanted to prolong this conflict”, but this Thursday the strike committee decided to go into lockdown, waiting to negotiate “with a valid interlocutor” who “bet on the doctors and pediatricians of the Community of Madrid ”.

After indicating that tonight the general director of Human Resources of the Madrid Health Service, Raquel Sampedro, ran into a member of the strike committee “and has not even deigned to greet him”, the general secretary of Amyts has pointed out that “there are There are many things to change in health management, including the treatment of doctors”.

In his opinion, “the Ministry has to understand that many things can be done with doctors and very few against doctors.”

He has confessed that he leaves the confinement “with a broken heart” with a mixture of emotions for stopping sleeping on the floor, stopping eating the food from the machine that they are offered and stopping being in a situation that “right now does not lead us nowhere” and by the screams and requests of the doctors who were waiting for them in the street at the doors of the building.

“I hope that this union is maintained and ends up setting up a new space of dignity for doctors and physicians and that once and for all we can negotiate our conditions. That those who told us that they would end up seeing us in espadrilles are not right because all colors have embraced that discourse and we doctors have finally woken up ”, he highlighted.

Hernández has affirmed that “in a perfect allegory of what is the treatment of doctors and physicians in the Community of Madrid for decades”, despite the mediation that has been attempted by members of other Administrations, the General Directorate Human Resources has complied with the order that he could not say where it came from and has not allowed the strike committee, made up of eight family doctors and a general surgeon of the digestive system, to enter quality hot food. In his opinion, “this, without being important, is a sample of how the Madrid Administration has become the worst abuser of doctors.”

While the confinement has lasted, at the doors of the building, dozens of people have gathered, some of them doctors, dressed in their white coats, to support the strike committee, made up of ten doctors, who decided to lock themselves up last Thursday after corroborating that the new attempt at negotiation would be of little use. They asked for a “valid interlocutor”, that is, that the president or the Health and Finance councilors sit at the table, something that Ayuso is not willing to do. The regional government attended the meeting without new measures and the doctors responded that they had previously rejected the proposal up to three times. Reports Fatima Caballero.
