The free Renfe tickets for Cercanías and Media Distancia can be requested from this Monday on its website

Renfe will open the registry on its website this Monday so that customers can request the free season ticket, which will start operating from August 24 for the Cercanías, Rodalies and Media Distancia trains. This registration is necessary so that frequent or recurrent travelers of these services can acquire their new subscription, subsidized at 100%, according to what the company has indicated to Europa Press. Registration will be open through Renfe’s own website and all of its applications.

Bank tax, free commuter trains and more scholarships: all Sánchez’s measures in the debate on the state of the nation

On July 12, the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced that the Government will discount 100% of the passes for various trips for Cercanías, Rodalies and medium-distance trains operated by Renfe, so they will become free from 1 from September to December 31 this year.

Deposit of 10 euros and a minimum of travel

The Executive has restricted the gratuity of these trains to users who make these journeys regularly, through a deposit whose return will be subject to the completion of a minimum of 16 trips over the four months that this measure will last.

The possibility of traveling for free on Cercanías trains will require a deposit of 10 euros, while on Media Distancia trains it will amount to 20 euros. If more than 16 trips have been made, this deposit will be returned automatically if it has been paid by credit card or through a face-to-face request from the user if it has been paid in cash.

The deposit will be paid at the time this new special voucher created for these four months is purchased, which will be unipersonal, that is, only one person can use it, and for a specific journey.

In this way, the system developed prevents the funds earmarked for this measure from going to occasional users who only intend to travel by train a few times for leisure purposes.
