A huge sinkhole has perplexed the inhabitants of the town of Tierra Amarilla in the Atacama region of Chile. The phenomenon cuts a rural road in half and is close to the Alcaparros mine.
“Yesterday (Saturday, July 30) we received a citizen complaint regarding a sinkhole that would have occurred here in our commune near Mina Alcaparros, which is part of Minera Candelaria,” said the mayor of the commune, Christopher Zuniga.
UNDERMINE! Closing was instructed from the accesses to the work located vertically to the sinkhole. Level 270, closing distance at 286 meters. Level 200, closing distance at 538 meters. Distance from the sinkhole on the surface to level 270: 200 meters. pic.twitter.com/QbdntXjo1T

“We are concerned, since it is a fear that we have always had as a communitythe fact of being surrounded by mining deposits and underground works under our commune”, he added.
For now, the origin of the tremendous hole in the ground is unknown, although wear due to mining could be a hypothesis.
This Monday, Sergeomin indicated that the phenomenon has an approximate diameter of 25 meters. I also reveal that the distance from the sinkhole on the surface to level 270 is 200 meters.
