The incidence adds 11 points to the 160 cases with the highest daily number of infections since September

The incidence registers an increase of eleven points and now reaches 160.15 points. The last time this rate recorded similar data was in early September, when on September 7, 160.73 incidence points were reported. At that time, the curve showed a downward trend, until on October 14, 40.52 cases were reported per 100,000 inhabitants, the lowest for more than a year. From that moment, the cases began to increase progressively.

The Ministry of Health has also reported 9,258 new infections. This is a new increase compared to this Wednesday, when 8,527 positives were registered. In total, 5,121,100 people have been infected with the coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic. It is the highest number of infections since the beginning of September, specifically on the 2nd, 9,561 infections were registered daily, and from that moment the number of positives began to decrease until this Thursday, without taking into account the data registered on Monday or days after holidays. , since in those cases the figures collected over several days are taken into account.

Navarra remains at the head of the communities with the highest incidence in the country and this Thursday registers 462.34 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. They are followed by the Basque Country, with 350.96 incidence points, and Aragon, which reports 267.19 cases. In addition, Catalonia, with 1,551 new positives; Comunitat Valenciana, with 1,344; and Andalusia, with 1,070 are the regions that report the highest increase in cases.

By age group, children under 12 years of age continue to register more and more cases of incidence, with 252.60 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. All strata already exceed 100 incidence points, except for people between 12 and 19 years of age (82.93) and those over 80 years of age (98.45). People between 40 and 49 years old, on the other hand, are already close to 190 cases of cumulative incidence.

Regarding the gap between vaccinated and unvaccinated, while the weekly hospitalization rate in vaccinated people aged 60 to 79 years is 24.7, for those who have not been immunized against the coronavirus is 196.3. In other words, the unvaccinated of that age register almost eight times the weekly rate of hospitalization of those who have been vaccinated.

Hospital pressure registers new increases, although not as pressing as in the case of incidence or infections. The number of patients hospitalized for COVID-19 rises (3,273 people), and the number of people admitted to the ICU for the disease (571).

On the other hand, Health has reported on this new day that 27 people have died from COVID-19, an increase compared to the previous day on Wednesday, when they registered 38 deaths from COVID.

79.2% of the Spanish population already has the complete guideline against COVID-19

The immunization strategy against COVID-19 continues to advance, and the intention of Health is to accelerate the administration of the third doses before Christmas. Spain is slowly approaching 80% of the population vaccinated with the full schedule, and this Thursday, 79.2% of the inhabitants are reached with maximum protection against COVID-19.

In total, more than four million people have already received these booster doses (4,123,858 in total). 57.9% of those over 70 years of age already have this third dose, while 17.33% of those initially vaccinated with Janssen have, in their case, this second dose, because Janssen is the only vaccine that it is single-dose.

By age group, people between the ages of 12 and 19 are, of the youngest groups, the stratum that has advanced the most in the vaccination campaign. They are followed by those from 20 to 29, with 78.8% with maximum protection, and those from 30 to 39, with 77.3% with both doses. The latter are at the tail end of the immunization strategy.

Health asks to accelerate with the third dose before Christmas and assumes that it will be extended to more ages

The administration of the booster doses is not flowing with the speed that the Ministry of Health expected. Minister Carolina Darias has admitted that the percentages of those vaccinated with the booster they are “low”, both in those over 70 years – of whom have received the third injection slightly more than 50% – and people who received the single dose of Janssen. In the latter case, the proportion is particularly small: it does not reach 15%.

“We must increase the percentage because we know about the vulnerability due to age, we cannot stop. Vaccine yes, and reinforcement also, the sooner the better,” said Darias, who has asked the regional councilors to step on the accelerator with the aim of that the 16 million people for whom the booster dose is already approved have it in place before the end of the year. “And if possible before the Christmas holidays, which involve many social interactions,” the minister warned at the press conference after the Interterritorial Health Council.
