The IU deputy denounced for mistreatment of his partner resigns from the act

The deputy of the United Left for Seville Miguel Ángel Bustamante has publicly announced his resignation from the act after being investigated for an alleged crime of ill-treatment of his ex-partner.

In a statement on social networks, Bustamante has indicated that “after verifying that there is a lawsuit filed against me that affects issues of my personal life and complying with what the IU statutes dictate, I announce my resignation from the minutes.”

In that same letter, the former deputy has stressed that he reiterates his “innocence” and that “all the accusations are false.” After automatically suspending him from militancy, the IU federal leadership demanded that Bustamante renounce the act, which did not take place until Monday afternoon.

Today the Supreme Court has begun to process the case that came from a court in Écija. Before making a decision on the opening or not of proceedings against him, the Criminal Chamber has urged the Sevillian court to decide as soon as possible whether or not to impose any protection measure for the complainant. In parallel, he has asked the Prosecutor’s Office if the case should be opened in the Supreme Court or if it should continue in the Écija court.
