The pair of figure skaters from Germany surprised with their performance at the Winter Olympics in Beijing.
The duo made up of Tim Dieck and Katharina Mueller appeared on the ice dressed as the Joker and Harley Quinn, characters that are part of the Batman universe.
Specifically, the skaters were based on the version of suicide squadso its characterization was inspired by its protagonists, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie, respectively.
The problem is that, like the superhero film, the presentation of the Germans, although it was unexpected, did not convince the judges very much either.
Both performed with the song “Toxic” by Britney Spears and were evaluated with a rating of 63.21, the lowest of the 10 teams that were part of the competition.
Batman fans were also unenthusiastic about the introduction of the two, with many failing to understand what relationship they had to the characters other than the clothing.
“The German ice-dancing duo dressing up as the Joker and Harley Quinn, and skating to a bluesy remix of Britney Spears’ “Toxic,” is proof that the American sphere of cultural influence has reached a new level of kink” wrote a Twitter user.
Another person on the same network asked: “Has everyone else seen figure skaters dressed as Joker and Harley Quinn? Please tell me I’m not hallucinating.”
The couple had to resort to some extra elements to attract the attention of the judges, however, not even the appearance at the end of the number of Jared Leto’s recorded laugh managed to move those who witnessed his performance.
