The Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has endorsed the prohibition of meetings of more than 10 people in Catalonia decreed this Monday by the Government, the closure of all activities at 00:30 hours and the veto to drink and eat food in Public spaces. The judicial decision comes on the eve of the Government deciding whether to request judicial endorsement of the night curfew in some municipalities to try to contain the infections.
The unstoppable increase in positives, which have placed Catalonia as one of the regions of Europe with the most contagions, led the Government this Monday to approve two new restrictions: all activities, cinemas, concerts, bars and restaurants must close at 00:30 hours, it is forbidden to eat and drink outdoors and meetings may not exceed ten people. The measures will enter into force when they are published by the Official Gazette of the Generalitat (DOGC).
The Generalitat also recommended that municipalities restrict access, between 00:30 and 06:00 hours, in public spaces that can become meeting and meeting points, such as parks and beaches, which caused a general criticism of consistories of all political colors when considering that the Government transferred the responsibility to contain the social gatherings and the bottles.
To the criticism of the municipalities, which disfigured the Government, it was carrying out a covert curfew, the judicial endorsement was added to the restriction of night mobility in the Valencian Community, which made the Catalan Executive consider the night curfew in the municipalities with the highest incidence.
This same Wednesday, the Deputy Mayor for Security of Barcelona, Albert Batlle, has assured that the Generalitat will decree this curfew “in a matter of hours.” “We are on the verge of a new curfew being decreed,” he explained to the Presidency committee after meeting this Tuesday with the Minister for the Presidency, Laura Vilagrà; the Minister of Health, Josep Maria Argimon, and the Minister of the Interior, Joan Ignasi Elena, with whom they agreed that instruments are necessary to put an end to this situation.
Batlle has predicted that the night curfew in the municipalities with the highest number of infections will last from 1:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and that it will last at least fifteen days.
