Ángel Víctor Torres has appeared before the media after attending the technical coordination meeting in the morning, in which he was accompanied by the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security, Julio Pérez; the head of the Civil Protection service, Montserrat Román, and the BRIFOR spokesperson, Pedro Martínez.

The president has indicated that the perimeter of the fire has increased to 26 kilometers, with four municipalities affected: Los Realejos, Icod de los Vinos, La Guancha and San Juan de la Rambla.

The president explained that Chanajiga is the area that worries the most, because it is inaccessible and all aerial means will be intensified there this Sunday. Also the slope of Tigaiga, due to its difficult orography.

At this time, he pointed out, there are 13 aerial means working, of which 12 throw water. In addition, reinforcements from the Military Emergency Unit (UME), 40 more troops, will arrive.

Ángel Víctor Torres has indicated that during the night there have been winds of between 10-15 km/h, for which he is being the “great ally” to be able to “walk towards the control of the fire”; humidity has hovered around 55-60%. However, the temperatures remain high and throughout the day they will cause the humidity to drop, which makes extinguishing tasks difficult.

The Canarian president has stressed that the night has behaved better than the previous ones to “kill the fire” and has warned that today the fire can be seen from the population centers but that does not mean that the fire “is getting worse”. For this reason, he has asked the population for caution and that official channels be followed without paying attention to false news.

For now there are 584 people evacuated. Torres has reported that during the night there have been no new evictions and all those affected are in the homes of relatives and in hotels. There are no people in shelters, he has clarified.

The president has detailed that temperatures will remain high at least until Wednesday, with worsening in the coming hours and low humidity, which favors the advance of the fire. The only positive aspect, he has said, is that the wind is not blowing strongly.

In addition, the TF-21 road from the Arafo intersection to El Portillo, in La Orotava, remains closed.
