Last Tuesday there was fireworks display in New York Bay, ordered by the governor Andrew Cuomo. It was the day the state certified that it exceeded the threshold of 70% of adults with at least one dose of the vaccine, a milestone that allowed the lifting of the vast majority of restrictions by covid. The celebration was throughout the state, but it had a special meaning in the city that gives it its name, which in March and April last year became the global epicenter of the pandemic.
