An explosion occurred this Monday at noon in a hotel located in the center of Barcelona, between Rambla and Boquería streets. The Mossos d’Esquadra have cordoned off the area and are investigating how the deflagration occurred. Corps sources confirm to this newspaper that there have been no serious injuries or structural damage to the building. The antiterrorist device has not been activated either, because for the moment the police do not rule out that it could be an accident.
Five fire brigade vehicles, four from the Mossos, three from the Servei d’Emergències Mèdiques (SEM) and seven from the Urban Guard have traveled to the area. In addition, traffic in the area has been closed and the passage of public transport has been cut off. Eyewitnesses cited by Cadena SER assure that fireworks were seen in the area just before the explosion.
The establishment affected is the Petit Palace Boquería hotel, located at number 10 of the street of the same name. It is a building that is next to the Pla de l’Os de la Rambla area, the point where the attack by mass assault took place on August 17, 2017, a fatal date of which this Tuesday marks the 4th years. These two coincidences have generated alarms at first, which has made the Mossos activate a large device, but later the alert level has been decreasing. However, the police for the moment do not rule out any possibility.
