The Mossos investigate a homophobic attack on three young people in Barcelona

The Mossos d’Esquadra investigate a new homophobic aggression in Barcelona. The events, as reported by the Catalan police, occurred this Friday morning in the Zona Franca neighborhood, when a man insulted and attacked three young people. The police continue to monitor the case and attend to the victims and have made it known to the Public Prosecutor’s Office against hate crimes and discrimination in Barcelona.

The trickle of homophobic attacks has not stopped in Catalonia in recent weeks. In mid-June, beatings were recorded against couples or groups in up to three points in Barcelona, and during the San Juan festival a couple reported having received a homophobic attack in the Gràcia neighborhood. The fatal beating of the young Galician Samuel Luiz has increased even more the alert for the attacks against people from the LGTBI group. The situation has been described by the president of the Observatori contra l’Homofòbia, Eugeni Rodríguez, of “spiral of violence”. The local and regional police, as well as the institutions, have shown their concern about the events and have strengthened the care services for victims of hate crimes.

In addition, the Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating a possible homophobic aggression that occurred on June 26 during the festivities of Sant Cugat del Vallès (Barcelona). A 20-year-old was unconscious after suffering a beating at the hands of two minors aged 15 and 17 and some of the witnesses assured the Catalan police that they “seemed” to hear cries of “fag”, according to police sources.
