The Prosecutor’s Office of Alcalá de Henares (Madrid) has sued a priest who was assigned to a parish in Torrejón de Ardoz “for having touched two minors”, indicates this institution in a press release. “The representative of the Public Ministry considers that the facts reported in the complaint could constitute two crimes of minor sexual abuse,” continues the Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation began after a complaint from the bishop of the diocese of Alcalá de Henares, Juan Antonio Reig Pla. The open proceedings “have revealed that the investigated priest touched two minors when they were both altar boys in the Santiago Apóstol parish where he was stationed,” says the Public Ministry.
According to the Prosecutor’s Office, the reported events occurred at different times. In one of the cases, the episode began in 2011 and lasted for two years. At that time, the alleged victim “was 12 years old.” “The situation ceased when the minor stopped being an altar boy and went to the church choir, ‘so they stopped meeting alone,” says the Prosecutor’s Office. In an episode “very similar” to the previous one, the events denounced by the second victim, who to this day is still a minor, are framed. These events happened between 2016 and 2019.
The Prosecutor’s Office announced in February that they had 68 investigations underway into sexual abuse of minors committed within religious institutions throughout the country. This statistic included not only cases that allegedly occurred within the Catholic Church but also, for example, in religious schools or within other congregations.
