This has been agreed by the prosecutor of the Environment room, Antonio Vercher, in a letter that has been communicated this Friday to the general director of Animal Rights. Vercher considers that “there are no indications of the commission of any crime, without prejudice to the analysis of the specific adjustment to the administrative legality of ORDER MAV/946/2022, of July 5, which declares the conformity of the adaptation of the bases of the traditional bullfighting show of the Toro de la Vega, adjustment and control (as well as the adoption of precautionary measures) which, where appropriate, would correspond to the contentious-administrative jurisdiction and not to the Public Prosecutor’s Office.”

The Environment Prosecutor’s Office recalls that it has already ruled in the same direction in similar petitions in 2007 and 2015. The essential issue, it explains, is that there is a regional legal basis that allows the present situation and to which it has been adapted. the way to celebrate this type of celebrations. From Social Rights they assure that, for the moment, the Ministry has not received the file notification of their request.

After the stoppage of the pandemic, this event will be held with a new regulation that does not allow the death of the animal on the ground. Even so, the bull will suffer damage, since this modification establishes “the imposition of a currency with a new punch that prevents blood from flowing outwards”, as explained by the Junta de Castilla y León. In addition, the limitation of the number of tournents “to fifty” and “the number of currencies that can be placed to seven” is contemplated.

With this decision of the Prosecutor’s Office, the precautionary measures requested this Thursday by Sergio G. Torres, general director of Animal Rights, who defended that this event “could lead to a crime of animal abuse” are rejected. This senior official argued that the “harpoons” violate the regional regulations of bullfighting shows. The regional regulation regulates that “in all” events with bullfighting cattle “it is prohibited to injure, prick and hit” these animals. However, the Prosecutor’s Office does not reach the same conclusion and rejects the precautionary measures that prevent the celebration of the Toro de la Vega.
