The restorer Ferran Alberich inaugurates the new National Prize for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Heritage


Ferran Alberich has been chosen as the first winner of the recently created National Prize for Cinematographic and Audiovisual Heritage this year. The award highlights the work of people, institutions and organizations that have developed or are developing initiatives and projects for the recovery, conservation and dissemination of cinematographic and audiovisual heritage. It is endowed with 30,000 euros.

The jury “for an exceptional career in the field of conservation and recovery of Spanish cinema over the last fifty years and for having promoted and promoted our cinema as a cultural heritage and living memory.”

Among his works, it is worth mentioning the restoration of an Andalusian dog of Luis Buñuel and Salvador Dalí, the restoration of life in shadows (LL. Llobet Gracia. 1948-1950); and the participation in different projects of digital remastering of quince sun (V. Erice. 1992).

In addition, the jury has pointed out that “his contribution to the communication and dissemination of cinematographic and audiovisual heritage has been fundamental, especially in opening and lighting the way for cinema, popular art par excellence, to be accepted and celebrated as an artistic expression, that must be valued and protected by the institutions”. The jury also highlighted “his generosity in transmitting his passion and knowledge to the next generations of film archive professionals, through his work and his dedication to Spanish cinema, which has made him an unquestionable benchmark.”

The award jury was chaired by Beatriz Navas Valdés, general director of the Institute of Cinematography and Audiovisual Arts (ICAA), and Josetxo Cerdán Los Arcos, director of the Spanish Film Library, acted as vice president. Joaquín Cánovas Belchí acted as members, at the proposal of the Spanish Committee of Film Historians (CEHA); Begoña Soto Vázquez, at the proposal of the Union of Filmmakers; Javier Zurro Catalá, at the proposal of the Association of Cinematographic Reporters of Spain; Rocío de las Muñecas San Segundo, at the proposal of the Center for Gender Studies of the UNED; and Mariona Bruzzo LLaberia, Isaac Sastre de Diego and Cecilia Cenciarelli, at the proposal of the ICAA.
