The Russian head of the Wagner group boasts of interference in the US elections: “We have interfered and will continue to interfere”

“Gentlemen, we have interfered, we are interfering and we will continue to interfere,” Prigozhin said in response to a question about alleged interference in legislative elections in the US.

Prigozhin’s name has been linked with a factory trolls based in Russia seeking to influence American politics. In 2018, he was accused in the US of running a covert campaign on social media to manipulate public opinion ahead of the presidential election won by Donald Trump in 2016.

Known as “Putin’s chef” for his catering company’s contracts with the Kremlin, Prigozhin admitted in September, after previously denying it, that he founded the Wagner mercenary group, whose members have been at the forefront of Moscow’s offensive and has been accused of committing human rights abuses.

Last week, Wagner, previously operating secretly, opened a military technology center in St. Petersburg, considered another step by Prigozhin to publicize his military credentials and take a more public role in shaping Russia’s defense policy.
